A Feast Fit for the Gods at Sree Krishna Inn!

Sree Krishna Inn Review

Just a short distance after Travancore Court at Warriam road*, Sree Krishna Inn is very popular and easily one of the best among the North/South Indian restaurants serving pure vegetarian food in town. It has been around for a while, and serves up many vegetarian delicacies. The waiting line is almost always very long, and you will have to sit around in the waiting area before getting a seat. That definitely goes to say a lot about how good it is!
The place is like a house converted to a restaurant, and it has that cozy feeling of home as soon as you walk in. The interior is well done up. Service is generally quick and efficient too.

Dosas

The dosas here are really good. They serve authentic Kerala type white, thin and crisp dosas. They also have masala dosa, ghee roast and other variants. Uthappams are also available, as is idli, vada etc.

Chhole bhatura

As with most veg restaurants in the city, the chhole bhature is good here. Plate sized crispy golden bhatura with the soft chhole (chickpea) in the gravy of aromatic spices. It can’t get much better unless you travel to the North itself. It doesn’t mean that it is the best bhatura you will ever eat, but it is really good.

Thairu (curd) Vada

This comprises of uzhunnu vada (savoury donut) soaked in curd/yogurt with some spices. It makes for a refreshing treat and the yogurt mellows out the spices. Makes for a nice snack or an appetizer. They do not put any additional crunchy crispy fried gram flour sticks or balls (boondi/mixture) like some places do but the ones served here are really tasty.

Chats

The selection of chats is pretty decent here. All the popular ones are available: papdi chat, sev puri and so on. It is one of the only places where you can get good chat without having to worry about the kind of hygiene as you would have to in those ubiquitous ‘chat carts’ (!) as I like to call them. Portions are better than the chat carts but they do cost a lot more, probably for the peace of mind. I admit, we used to eat from the chat carts as well without incident but we decided that it was just testing our luck.

Naan/Roti

They even serve up great naans and other kinds of rotis. As with any other place, they offer the naan with or without butter. Have this with some curry like the paneer butter masala or something else and you'll know what we are talking about.

Curries

They have all kinds of superb curries like paneer butter masala, vegetable korma and so on. They would go well with the wide variety of rotis they offer.

Thali

The North Indian Thali is very good, offering nice variety and is arguably one of the best among the mixed (North and South Indian) vegetarian restaurants in town. The rotis/chapatis (flatbread) served in it are made well. Also included is a glass of lassi.

*Note:
There is another restaurant with the same name near North Railway Station. This is NOT A BRANCH of the Sree Krishna Inn at Warriam Road, and is nowhere near as good. We can write a review of that too upon request but it is not as good as the Sree Krishna Inn at Warriam road. You have been warned.
